Sip your coffee….SLOWLY
I haven’t posted in a while. Not that I didn’t want to, but I have just been procrastinating. I traveled a fair bit over the last few months, although that is not new for me. However, what traveling does is bring you in front of some new people. And out of those new people, even fewer people stand out. They can stand out for various reasons, and I am not going to go into the details of that in this post, but I am grateful that I can travel as much as I do!
Anyway, before I digress further, I have always enjoyed my morning coffee. Replace that with tea if I am visiting my parents - they love tea! And so do I, but since moving to the US, I have had more coffee than tea, for the simple reason that it is just quicker to make at home and more readily available outside. One thing I don’t like, though, is rushing my coffee - especially my morning coffee (I rarely have more than 1 cup of coffee now, since it affects my sleep, and I have an unproven theory that it also makes me anxious).
The idea of drinking hot coffee slowly, taking all the time in the world to enjoy those first few sips of coffee, sipping as if you have no where to be, is sort of magical. What I sincerely dislike, though, is using any electronic devices, and especially my phone, while drinking that hot cup of happiness ☕
I also enjoy the process of making coffee. I used to make drip coffee, but I have moved on to using a French Press. One could argue that they both taste similar, but that is a discussion for another day. Grinding the coffee beans, boiling the water, mixing the two in my French Press, and letting it stand for 4-5 minutes while I inhale the rich aroma of the coffee roast - oh boy, don’t I like that?!
As an extrovert, I also enjoy a good conversation. And good conversations with my people, over a cup of coffee on my apartment balcony in the early morning, after starting my day with a few fruits - few things beat that feeling.
But you have got to drink that coffee SLOWLY… slow enough that you can feel the coffee hitting every nook and cranny in your mouth. And then don’t gulp it all down in one big swig. Nah. You have to sip it down little by little. Letting the warmth of the coffee slip down your esophagus while your nose can savour the amazing smell of the coffee beans crushed and mixed with hot water.
As I write this post, I am craving coffee. But it is 4PM in Seattle, so I will have to wait till tomorrow morning! Looking forward to it :)
